Presentation is Everything

You’ve got on average five seconds to impress someone. Whether that is with your looks, smile, posture, handshake, etc.

To some, that five seconds is something that isn’t valuable while to others…first impressions mean everything.

Growing up, my parents used to say “it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it”. I never really understood that statement until I got into college and began the journey of branding myself and my professional image as it applies to employers and peers and their image of me.

It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it. You can give a presentation with great content, you can have an interview with great conversation…but ultimately if you cannot impress someone with your personal presentation of yourself, then how can you ever expect to make it in the professional sector?

It’s a tricky method that people use to “weed out” those individuals who just don’t make the cut. Whether it’s the lack of personality, lack of humor (or lack of seriousness), wardrobe and posture, smile and handshake, the list goes on.

Your personal presentation is everything in the professional world. If you are going to be representing a brand like Nike, or the Portland Trail Blazers, or Starbucks then you need to be aware that it’s not just about content but it’s about the presentation of the content
